Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions families ask us most. Don't see yours? Reach out and we're happy to help.

How do I know which program is right for me or my family member?

It depends on the person's goals, daily routine, and the level of support they need. Someone who enjoys structure and group activities close to home often thrives in Adult Day Support, while someone who wants to be out in the community every day may prefer Community Engagement. For housing, options range from Supported Living in your own apartment to full-time care in one of our Group Homes. During your tour and initial assessment, our team walks you through each option in detail so you leave with a program that actually fits never a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

What's the difference between Adult Day Support and Community Engagement?

Adult Day Support runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and centers on group activities, skill-building, and outings based out of our Richmond center. Community Engagement runs 7 days a week, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is built around getting out into the community every day volunteering, local events, and real-world experiences. Many members benefit from a mix of both; our team can help you decide during your tour.

What's the difference between Supported Living and Group Home Services?

Supported Living is for members who want their own apartment alone or with a roommate with our staff coming to them for medication management, transportation, groceries, and daily support, while they keep their independence and routine. Group Home Services provide 24/7 on-site care in a structured, supportive home for those who need more consistent, round-the-clock support. If you're not sure which fits, we also offer individualized help finding the right housing arrangement, including guidance on tenant rights and community resources.

Do I need a referral before I schedule a tour?

No scheduling a tour is always the first step, and no referral is required to visit us or ask questions. Once you've toured our Richmond center and seen which program fits best, your Support Coordinator can send a formal referral and our team will help you with the paperwork from there.

Is transportation provided?

Yes. Transportation is included in several of our programs Supported Living members get help getting to appointments, errands, and community activities, and our day programs include transportation for group outings. Let our team know your specific needs during your tour so we can confirm exactly what's available for the program you're considering.

What ages and needs do you support?

We support adults with developmental disabilities throughout the Richmond, VA area, across a full range of needs from those who thrive with a few hours of structured activity each week to those who need full-time, 24/7 residential care. Every program is person-centered, so reach out to our team to talk through your specific situation and find the right fit.

How long does it take to become a member?

Timelines vary based on your Support Coordinator, your referral, and how quickly the initial assessment can be scheduled. Our team stays in touch with you every step of the way so you always know what's next reach out and we can give you a clearer estimate based on your specific situation.
